Excellent skiing is available for all ability levels. At 2075m Mt Hutt has the longest ski season and is the most consistant of all the ski fields in New Zealand. This and being only 1 1/2 hours from Christchurch makes it also one of the most popular.

The season lasts from May to October and caters for all skill levels (25% beginners, 50% intermediate and 25% advanced). There is 365ha of skiable terrain the verticle drop is 672m with the longest run at about 2km. The lifts include 1 quad, 1 triple chair, 3 T-bars, 2 platters and 2 beginner tows. Large base station good base for heliskiing.

For accommodation Methven is 25km and Ashburton is 35km away although the facilities at Mt Hutt are excellent and include a cafe, fully licenced brasserie and bar, snow shop, child's centre, ski, snowboard and clothing rental, ski and snowboard repairs, storage, medical facilities and of course the terrain itself which also includes a half pipe.
