Diary of a Seasonaire
Our Seasonaire Samples Retail Therapy in Lausanne
This weeks weather has been beautiful, clear blue skies and temperatures reaching up to 18 degrees on the slopes! Its like spring's come early! Unfortunately this weather is not good for skiing conditions. It is so warm that the mountain's turning brown and rocky! Normally in these conditions, the snow cannons provide a substitute.
At the moment, however, this is not an option as the cannons can only operate when temperatures are below freezing. I have just come down from boarding for the day and the slopes are getting busier as we head back to peak season. This, combined with the lack of snow, make unfavourable conditions for us seasonaires. I am, however, still here living in the mountains so I can't complain! Earlier this week, a friend and I decided to venture down from the resort to Lausanne to go shopping!
Lausanne is close to Geneva and the train to Martigny and then on to Verbier is the same for both cities. Travel in Switzerland is very efficient, trains almost always run on time and with plentiful seating. Although I had to take two trains and the lift from Le Chable to get to and from Lausanne, the same as a journey form Geneva Airport, the journey was easy, cheap and rather relaxing, unlike England! Lausanne itself was an odd little town but to be shopping again was great and it was nice to have a day out and venture further into Switzerland.
The lack of snow has deterred the not so hardcore skiers from the slopes, this inevitably equals more partying! And what a week for it, the famous Swedish cover band Yellow Mike have been playing in the Farinet Apres-ski. This band are great and many book their holidays in order to coincide with Yellow Mike. On my last night off I went with a few friends to see them and was not disappointed. Dancing on the bar started immediately and by the end of the night I had been crowd-surfing, singing with the band, and encouraging the large shot consumption! A great evening all round, straight off the slopes and into the bar!
Tomorrow my boyfriend is coming out to visit so I'll be able to investigate weekly board and boot hire etc and see more from a tourist perspective.
